New Body for the New Year

Finally, it is here. I have finally got myself a new camera to start 2010 with. And also, my beloved wife also got herself one new camera. So now we can enjoy photography together.

As I have started with a Pentax system when I first started photography, I thought I would still continue with the same system. I love this system. The colors of the images produced is truly natural, nice contrast with good details preserved. Same with most Pentax cameras, the camera body is solid, although it doesn't have the magnesium alloy body of other brands, but it sure does feel like one. The camera body is weather sealed. Rubber seals protects the closures, so I have no worries in lugging it around the harsh conditions. The camera ergonomics is also very good, very easy to handle and at least I would not get a cramp at the end of the day.

Now just a brief description by www.dpreview.com on my new camera.

Having risked being left behind by the speed at which the 'affordable' DSLR market developed, Pentax showed how serious its intentions were with the K10D, a semi-pro-level DSLR with a features list to humble the competition at a very attractive price. Having added so many bells and whistles to the K10D, it's not much of a surprise to find that its successor, the K20D, is essentially a refinement of the same design. But, even though it can't quite boast the same novel-feature-count as its predecessor, the K20D still finds room for some interesting changes. The stand-out feature of the K20D is undoubtedly its 14.6MP CMOS sensor, co-developed with the giant South Korean conglomerate Samsung. The companies claim the design reduces the amount of circuitry around each photosite, offering a similar light-sensitive area, per pixel, to a 12MP chip of conventional design. The other major change is the addition of a live-view mode that provides a zoomable, live preview directly from the imaging sensor.

I would like to highlight my wife's new camera as well. The Pentax K-x. Suprisingly, it performs very well for a entry level DSLR. I'll leave it to www.dpreview.com for brief description on the K-x. Cool little gadget.

The K-x is Pentax's upper-entry-level model, offering a familiar 12.4 megapixel CMOS sensor in the same compact body as the less expensive K2000 (K-m outside the US). The K-x combines a selection of high-end features, such as an 11-point AF system (9 of them cross-type) with a very compact body and the abilty to use standard AA batteries. It can shoot 720p HD video at 24 fps and shoot 17 JPEGs at 4.7 frames per second. It misses out on the more expensive K-7's magnesium alloy body and cannot display the selected AF-point in the viewfinder but shares its image processing engine and is one of the smallest and lightest APS-C DSLRs on the market.

Mel & Steffi

Mel & Steffi. A classic example of two person destined to meet each other. Also the best thing of all is they were brought together by photography which makes capturing this day all the more special. They met each other in a friend and brother's wedding. Then during the wedding, Mel asked Steffi about the DSLR camera she was using.... WAH LAH!!!! ... LOVE IS IN THE AIR!!! It's amazing how god works some times. One can be searching for his/her other half the whole life and never find it. But when you stop searching, it will suddenly appear in front of you. Amazing isn't?

Congratulations Mel & Steffi!!!

Ing Shean At Home 2009

A simple shoot. Simple equipments. No planning. Done very leisurely at the comfort of Baby Ing Shean's home.

Baby Ing Shean was a bit grouchy that day. Probably because she has started growth teeth. But once she sees her toys, everything was just perfect. Her joyful and enthusiast look makes the photo session a blast.

Here are some of the photos

Busy Busy Busy

Hi all,

I just realized that I haven't being updating my blog lately. I've been busy with my own wedding which getting nearer and nearer. A lot of preparation are being done and am almost busy every minute of everyday. So, having the need to focus on my own wedding, I haven't being shooting lately. My camera were tuck away for them to take a break for quite sometime now.

Only until recently, I had to wake it up again to take some family portraitures for a friend as a present for their daughter's 1st Birthday which I have agreed to do beforehand. Although this shoot was a simple one and done very leisurely at the comfort of their home, I was pretty excited about it cos I need some relaxation. There's something about photography that makes me feel relaxed. Perhaps it is the joyful and looks on the my clients faces that helps.

Here's a sneak preview.

I will try to find some time to post the photos as soon as possible. :)

Soon & May Registration of Marriage - 03102009

Everyone...meet Soon and May.

03102009 was a very special day for Soon & May. This day was the day they register to become husband and wife.

I got to know this lovely couple through a fellow photographer. Taking photos with was a blast. May was very sporting and fun to work with. Soon was the more subtle one. But still you can see the loving connection they have for each other.

The only unfortunate thing during the photo shoot was the weather. it was raining off and on through the whole morning. Luckily the couple was sporting enough to get wet and dirty in the rain.

My camera and I were totally wet. But it was totally worth it.

Congratulations again Soon & May. :)

Special Thanks:

19092009 - Lesley Pang's 21st Birthday Celebration

Reaching 21 years old is a milestone and a very special moment in one's life. This means that one takes the step into adulthood and entering a new phase of life. Indeed this moment is a special celebration that marks one leaving the protecting arms of his/her parents and be more independent. However one should never forget the love of his/her parents that guided and protected them throughout their childhood.

I have been given an opportunity to document this celebration and indeed this brings back great memories.

Special Thanks to

Jerral and Tamera 2009 - A Weekend at Kiara Park

I've met Tamera through my wife Chang Yeen. Both of them are co-workers and from there we get to know Jerral as well. Jerral and Tamera are very nice people and it is always fun to hang out with them.

As they are planning to get married soon, I thought this might a good opportunity to shoot some photographs of them as a remembrance of their time together as a couple.

On this bright an sunny sunday, we decided to go to Kiara Park, a place where they use to go get some exercise. It was a bomb to shoot that day and we had a lot of fun shooting as they were quite natural when it comes to posing and all.

Baby Chang Kah Joo 2009

I love taking children photography. To take photographs of children is very challenging as children never seemed to stay put at one place. Also, children between the aged of 1 - 5 years old is very very inquisitive. If they see you, they probably run up to you and try grabbing what ever equipment that is unfamiliar to them i.e your camera. But all is ok for me...as long as all the funny little things they do are captured.

Joo is the same here. I was my in-law's place over the weekend. I brought my camera along to take photos of Joo since he doesn't come over here that very often. Jo was fairly easier than other children. I was just shooting by the side of the pool while looking at him having fun with his father. I think he doesn't bother about why am I holding an odd looking thing in my hand and pointing at him as long as he is having fun. I managed to capture some shots bonding and joyful moments between father and son and the swimming pool.

Thank you to Chang Wueng, Winnie and Joo Joo. I hope you like the photos that I have taken

Baby Adrian Yap

Here's another Series of the Baby Photos.

Welcome to the World, Adrian, a natural born model.

I love taking baby photos. It makes you feel so calm and stressless. Baby are so adorable and innocent. The only thing babies do when you are taking photos of them, is that their minds wonders what are you doing with an odd looking equipment pointing at them.

Class of 2009 - UNITEN CONVOCATION

I was at my younger brother's convocation on the 15th August 2009 in UNITEN which happens to be my former university as well. The place were packed with people. Parents, relative, friends and all. Everyone seemed to be so happy and smiling everywhere. When the certificate presentation ceremony was completed, the graduates walked out of the hall with big smiles glued on their faces. Ahhh....reminds me of the old times. Congratulations to all of the graduates.
